Although SGEC is funded primarily to provide geriatric education and training for health care providers. Scholars associated with SGEC have directed or been involved with numerous research projects relating to health care for older adults, especially those from diverse backgrounds. (See some of the publications from those research projects listed in the pages by topic on this website.) Some of the current research interests of SGEC related scholars include the following topics, all in the context of the diverse population of older adults: geriatric program evaluation, dementia and caregiving, geriatric mental health, spiritual and cultural issues in long term care and end of life care, emergency preparedness, health literacy
